The Porter

Postby thewildbunny on Sat Mar 01, 2008 4:30 pm

Given, you took a bit of freedom with the porter, but how much was scripted by you (and Posner) and how much was left up to Eric? Of course, each audience is unique, so there must be some degree of variation each night, but is the porter's banter still mostly defined by a set script?

Also, was there a very great change in the blocking for the porter scene between Two River and Folger? I can't wait to see it in the new space - I just bought my tickets for the last performance.

(watch it be extended yet again :D )

We told Eric to be funny with Shakespeare's ideas. He did the rest. The script is pretty tight now: it didn't start out that way.

There's a great use he makes of the whole building in the Folger version. I won't spoil it by telling you.

I have to say,Teller, I enjoyed the restaging for the Folger very much. It's nice because it brings the audience really into the action of the play.

Hope that doesn't give away too much.

Eric is hilarious - at Two Rivers I was the last person he spoke to with before heading back to stage . . I got to give is bum a nice little pat. I was laughing so hard I was crying.

Hey - much kudos - just saw Macbeth is now TOTALLY sold out for the entire run. Standing room tickets available only! Where will they put em?

Just as long as no one has to sit on my lap, my legs tend to fall asleep easily. Goodness, standing room only, now we're talking Shakespearian. I'm glad I got my tickets for the last two shows when I did!

The blocking was even more intimate than Two River - seemed a lot more natural and comfortable too.

Though - what really made the porter scene perfect was that during very last performance (Sunday April 13th, evening) the lady sitting in an aisle seat completely felt up the porter when he asked her "feel how tender that is". Like, went for gusto, the audience was in tears. I was in pain, it was such a strong performance to finish on.

I was awe-struck to see how much the cast has matured. From first performance to last the tone and depth and darkness was gripping. Though the excitement of opening night does carry its charms, the horror and madness came a long way.

I was glad to see the fight with the Young Siward twice - once for my own shuttering amusement, and once to watch the rest of the audience squirm. A very nice touch.

The murder of the Dufflings I found to be the creepiest part of opening night at Two River, but it managed to prove even creepier the last two shows at Folger - not as wordy and a better pace (much needed). Attention focused on her . . yes. Very disturbing.

Question. Oh a question . . let's see.

Are you going to install those gates on the front of your house? Or your perimeter?

Might not keep out the zombies quite so well, but that's ok.

(I hope you do)
