Sleight of Hand

Postby Kimmerv2 on Tue Mar 11, 2008 2:07 pm

Hi Teller,

If a gal wanted to try to learn a bit of sleight of hand, are there any tips you could give her. (uh, me). I really wouldn't know where to start. I've never done any magic before and I've been curious to see if I'd be any good at it.

Hell, I realized I have rather large hands for a gal - I could probably palm a Cadillac if I knew how.

No wait - that would just be auto theft, perhaps not.

are you referring to the fact that you don't know how to palm? ...

i'm a chick that loves "Slieght of hands" as for the actual seven rules :
"Palm, Ditch, Steal, Load, Simulation, Misdirection, Switch"
I've been practicing the whole thing for ages... - just not with ciggarettes.
may i suggest you start by constantly watching this one clip haha ;)

Youtube of course.

it's what got me started...:) good luck.

Male, Female, or whatever, an excellent place to start with sleight of hand is Bill Tarr's "Now You See it, Now You Don't"

It teaches sleight of hand with all sorts of props- from cards to matches and even billiard balls.

I know you wanted an answer from Teller, so you can wait for what he says; just know that the above book is an excellent resource for beginning to low intermediate sleight of hand.

Makoto - many thanks for book suggestion. :D

palishere - yeah, I'm afraid I don't know how to do any magic at all - though I'd like to give it a try. I love that P&T clip, btw . .it's one of my youtube favorites.

All,

For those that would like to begin study of sleight of hand you may want to try your local library first. Section 790 will get you in the area where most magic books are stocked. Tarr's book would be great if your library has it but there should be some there that will give you a good first taste.

Don't forget to check out a book on the history of magic too. If you can get James Randi's book Conjuring as it's a good first book to read on magic's history.

Above all study the material, then begin working (practice, rehearse and perform).
