When it comes to furniture care products, there are three basic types of furniture care products:
- Silicone cleaners.
Silicone Based Cleaners and Waxes:
We recommend avoiding silicone cleaners and waxes. While silicone cleaners create a high degree of shine and sparkle and silicone seeps into even the highest-quality finishes. Thus creating a barrier that will not accept stain or lacquer. This makes it virtually impossible to refinish or touch-up your furniture.
Waxes should be avoided because their continuous use may result in a build-up of wax film on the surface of the furniture. This build-up could actually attract dirt, smoke and other pollutants in the air. And may result in smudges and stains.
Also, many waxes contain grit that can permanently damage the texture of furniture surfaces if used improperly.
Polishes, which we recommend, contain three main components i-e;
- Mineral oils.
The detergent helps in cleaning dirt from the furniture. Where as the emulsifiers give it body to clean and stay longer. The mineral oil is left behind to form a film of oil or barrier to prevent dirt and moisture that could harm finishing of furniture. The polishes doesn’t contain any grit to harm the finish, no wax to build up and no silicone to raise the sheen and act as a barrier for touch-up and refinishing.
These are the main types of furniture care products and they all have their merits and demerits. But we would highly recommend any good quality furniture polishes over other types based on our experience in manufacturing furniture.
