Silicone Based Cleaners and Waxes

We don’t suggest silicone cleaners and waxes for taking care of your furniture. While silicone cleaners make a high level of shine and sparkle but silicone seeps in even the best finishes. Accordingly making a barrier that won’t accept stains or polish. This makes it nearly impossible to refinish or touch-up your furnishing.

Waxes

Waxes should be avoided because their continuous use may result in a build-up of wax film on the surface of the furniture. This build-up could actually attract dirt, smoke and other pollutants in the air. And may result in smudges and stains.

Also, many waxes contain grit that can permanently damage the texture of furniture surfaces if used improperly.

Polishes

Polishes, which we recommend, contain three main components i-e;

• Detergent.
• Emulsifiers.
• Mineral oils.

The detergent helps in cleaning dirt from the furniture. Whereas the emulsifiers give it body to clean and stay longer. The mineral oil is left behind to form a film of oil or barrier to prevent dirt and moisture that could harm the finishing of furniture. The polishes don’t contain any grit to harm the finish, no wax to build up and no silicone to raise the sheen and act as a barrier for touch-up and refinishing.

These are the main types of furniture care products and they all have their merits and demerits.
