Which Bed Or Mattress Size Is Suitable For You?

Whether you are a businessman, a day to day office guy or a housewife, after a long day of hard work all you need is a comfortable sleep. And comfort is not just about firmness. We spent quite some portion of our lives sleeping. Therefore, it is important to choose a mattress size that allows you to move freely during the night. If you don’t know about the standard bed sizes in UK, we have a comprehensive guide for you here.

There are ways to save money, but buying a smaller bed hoping it’ll work out is not the one. This will only cause the stress of having to choose different mattresses all over again and going through return processes.

Whereas in the case of the bigger mattress, they may help you sleep. But it won’t help nearly as much as buying a mattress that provides excellent long-lasting support for your body size and sleeping position. If your quality of sleep is not satisfying enough or if you feel restricted and uncomfortable with your sleeping space, please read on.

In order to choose the right bed or mattress, it will be easier if you think about these questions before purchasing a new bed:

How much space should be left around your bed to be comfortable for walking around?.

How will you fit a couple’s bed in a small bedroom without making it look or feel cramped?.

What is the best mattress size for different age groups?.

The bed sizes available in the United Kingdom are the small single, single, small double or queen size, double, king and super king.

Following is a piece of general advice for choosing beds and mattresses for different age groups, living spaces, and roles:

Small Single, Single Beds Mattress Size

These are the most widely used option for kids’ rooms or multi-use visitor rooms. These beds are little in size and fit effectively into the smallest of the rooms. Due to its little footprint, it will fit effectively into smaller bedrooms. Then again, the standard size is too short for some grown-ups.

Small Double, Queen Size Mattress Size

Any of these sizes fit in a normal-sized room. However, various couples feel that somewhat small double is definitely too restricted for anything more than an occasional night’s sleep. Whereas queen-size bed gives each individual more space without consuming a ton of room. Regardless, before you buy bedding keep it in mind that at times standard queen sizes may not fit adequately. Besides, you may need to hack down king-size bedding, adding a huge cost to your purchase.

King And Super King Mattress Size

These beds occupy more space and are recommended for large bedrooms. In this case, two people sleeping in a king-size bed will get the same personal sleeping space as in combining two small single size beds. In fact, if you pushed two single beds together they’d be about the same size as a Super king. For great versatility in a guest room, if you have the floor space. You can use 2 extra single beds separately, for singles or push them together to make a king bed for couples.

However, when buying sheets, be careful to purchase the right size. Flat sheets will fit both sizes of king beds, but fitted sheets are cut to fit one or the other. But before you go shopping for sheets, be sure to measure your bed exactly to be sure to buy the linens that will fit exactly.

Above mentioned bed sizes might have provided you with a good idea. But if you are still confused with all those mattress types, read the following section where we have simplified the whole equation to two factors:

1-Length

For a comfortable sleep, your whole body is supposed to stay within the boundaries of the mattress. A mattress that is too short leaves your feet dangling over the mattress-end, which to be honest is not very comfortable. We recommend your mattress size to be at least 20-30 cm longer than your body length. For example, if your height is 160 centimeters, then the ideal mattress length for you would be 190-200 centimeters.

2-Width

For a comfortable space for side to side body movement and to prevent falling down of your bed and bumping your head, we recommend your mattress width to be at least 90-120 centimeters.

Smaller than this, you will feel limited and end up being restless all night.

For couples, we recommend a King size or preferably a Super King mattress rather than a Double size. As in UK, a Double size is only 135 cm wide. Which means, there is only 62.5 cm of space for each person. Not only is there not enough space for yourself but also your partner’s body movement may disturb your sleep, resulting in bad quality and restless sleep.
